The tale glides along making use of hackneyed historical details as a frame work for a childish series of life events and decisions, none of which creat any suspense, or grab the reader's interest or concern. The sort of drivel that slides off a careless pen and is the product of a mundane mine

If you have read his earlier works, particularly As The Crow Flies, you'll recognise similarities in his stories. This one was predictable, with characters recognizable from earlier novels, give different names in this one. Another novel with reference to Oxford, Latin and Shakespeare in-jokes you'll only get if you're read English at the aforementioned College. I'll be returning to his earlier works for a more original read.

As with other Jeffrey Archer books there were lots of twists and turns and the characters in the book were so well portrayed that it was possible to imagine not only what they look like but also their personality and character. A great read and I have four more books to go. Excited - the housework will have to wait!!!

Unfortunately the characters are sketchy and stereotypical, the narrative is predicable and episodic and the events are simplistic and improbably trite, with black and white world views, actions and outcomes. If you have read his earlier works, particularly As The Crow Flies, you'll recognise similarities in his stories. This one was predictable, with characters recognizable from earlier novels, give different names in this one. Another novel with reference to Oxford, Latin and Shakespeare in-jokes you'll only get if you're read English at the aforementioned College. I'll be returning to his earlier works for a more original read.

As with other Jeffrey Archer books there were lots of twists and turns and the characters in the book were so well portrayed that it was possible to imagine not only what they look like but also their personality and character. Only Time will tell

This book is obviousely intended to set up an ever expanding family saga. Unfortunately the characters are sketchy and stereotypical, the narrative is predicable and episodic and the events are simplistic and improbably trite, with black and white world views, actions and outcomes. The tale glides along making use of hackneyed historical details as a frame work for a childish series of life events and decisions, none of which creat any suspense, or grab the reader's interest or concern. The sort of drivel that slides off a careless pen and is the product of a mundane mine

I was totally disappointed with this book by Jeffery Archer. The dialogue was infantile and the plot so shallow as to be an insult to the reader who would be looking for something much better from an author of his reputation. More than waste of money this read was a waste of time.

If you haven't read Jeffrey Archer before, then you'll enjoy this book. Well written and engaging. If you have read his earlier works, particularly As The Crow Flies, you'll recognise similarities in his stories. This one was predictable, with characters recognizable from earlier novels, give different names in this one. Another novel with reference to Oxford, Latin and Shakespeare in-jokes you'll only get if you're read English at the aforementioned College. I'll be returning to his earlier works for a more original read.

I have just read the first book of the Clifton Chronicles and can't wait to read the second The Sins of the Father. As with other Jeffrey Archer books there were lots of twists and turns and the characters in the book were so well portrayed that it was possible to imagine not only what they look like but also their personality and character. A great read and I have four more books to go. Excited - the housework will have to wait!!!

Wow! Just finished this first book in the series and can't wait to start the next. I've always been a fan of Jeffery Archer's style of story-telling, however I think 'As The Crow Flys' was always my favorite. This book is written in a very similar vain. Great book. Worth the read.
